| This report provides an overview of Bulgaria’s telecom sector, accompanied by relevant statistics and brief profiles of the main operators. Regulation is intended to be aligned with that of the EU, which Bulgaria is on target to join in 2007. The effects of the most recently implemented legislation is being felt as alternative operators commence acquiring market share in the liberalised fixed-line market, albeit at a slow pace. Internet usage is high and the nascent broadband market is set to grow as the incumbent has only recently launched ADSL services. The mobile market continues its dynamic growth at the expense of fixed-line market, with a third GSM operator launching services in November 2005. All three operators were awarded 3G licences and a trial service has been launched. |
