Telecommunications market of Croatia

Phone Cards, Calling Cards
The Croatian telecoms market has been shaped by the country’s bid to join the EU, resulting in market liberalisation and creating a regulatory environment conducive to competition. As a result a number of alternative operators have launched services. The incumbent has responded to competition by focusing on broadband services, leading to explosive growth in ADSL subscriber levels. The mobile market is dominated by a duopoly and the launch of a third operator is expected to renew subscriber growth. Mobile data usage is quite high and is expected to increase as third generation mobile services have been launched.
This report covers central, eastern and south Eastern Europe on a geographical basis and includes Greece. It gives an overview of the telecommunications market in the region. Fixed-line penetration levels are low and are declining in many countries due to mobile substitution. In contrast the mobile market is enjoying high growth across much of the region and very high penetration levels in the more developed markets. Internet penetration is low, mostly due to low incomes, but broadband connections are increasing.
