| The Iraq telecoms market has undergone much repair and development since the end of hostilities. The emphasis is now on developing the network, with the national regulator launching a tender for wireless local loop licences. The major development has been the establishment and rapid growth of mobile services from a zero start following the award of three temporary mobile licences. A tender has been launched for long-term mobile operator licences. Internet access, restricted prior to the war, has also grown quickly due to the availability of satellite broadband access and the opening of Internet cafes. |
